Truck cab essentials
What actually gets used when the cab is your home all week: to eat, keep power, rest, stay organized and drive safe. Each item has two buttons: the top-rated on Amazon and the cheapest, so you choose.
Food and drinks
Fresh food all week without relying on truck stops.
Hot meals in the cab, plugged into the 12V socket.
Hot water for coffee, tea or instant meals.
Coffee in the cab without stopping for it.
Power and connection
Charge your laptop or plug in household devices.
Phone in sight for navigation and always charged.
Charge your phone away from the cab or if the socket fails.
Start up without waiting for another vehicle or cables.
Check and top up tire pressure when you need to.
Comfort and rest
Air in the sleeper in summer without idling the engine.
Warmth on cold nights with low power draw.
Good rest is part of the job.
Darkness to sleep in daytime and privacy at the stop.
Back support for long hours at the wheel.
Watch something on your long break, on the cab wall.
Cleaning, light and storage
A clean cab without hunting for a vacuum at the stop.
To check the load, couple up or fix something at night.
Everything in its place and nothing sliding in the curves.
A cab that smells good, even if you live in it.
Security
Extra locks and alarms to sleep easier at the stop.
See what you cannot see from the seat when maneuvering.
Keep papers and cash out of sight.
Coins at hand for tolls, showers or machines.
Load and tools
To secure what you haul. Before buying, see the number that matters on a strap.
For the small daily fixes.
Routes that respect your truck’s weight and height limits.
Take calls without taking your hands off the wheel.
Emergency equipment
FMCSA rule 49 CFR 393.95 requires a fire extinguisher on commercial trucks. Keep it mounted and in reach.
49 CFR 393.95 also requires three bidirectional emergency reflective triangles.
Spare fuses are on the same list in 393.95 when the truck uses them.
For small injuries on the road.
Also worth having: a high-visibility vest, work gloves and, in winter, an ice scraper and de-icer. And for the paperwork, StowHand has a free bill of lading template and freight calculators.
