Cookie policy
StowHand only sets its own cookies if you sign in to your account, and they are technical: they keep you signed in. Any others you may find come from advertising providers, and you can turn them off.
What a cookie is
A small text file a site asks your browser to keep, which is sent back on later visits. It is how a site recognises a returning browser. Cookies cannot run programs or read other files on your device, but they can be used to build a picture of browsing across many sites, which is why they are regulated.

What is kept in your browser (not cookies)
- Your DeCA address book, only if you tick “Save in my address book” (
sh_agendaandsh_agenda_on, and the group you chose,sh_ag_grupo). - A DeCA just made without an account, for 15 minutes, so it can move into your account if you create one (
sh_deca_pend). - If you have an account, your photo or initial to show it at the top (
sh_avatar). - If you close the “Prefer Spanish?” notice on the English home page, so it does not appear again (
sh_es_no). - If you install the app, the pages, so it opens quickly.
None of this is sent anywhere or used to follow you. It is removed by clearing the data for stowhand.com in your browser. The counter of people online keeps nothing on your device (it is explained in the privacy policy).
Turning them off
- In your browser. Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies, usually under Privacy or Site settings. Blocking third-party cookies switches off almost everything described above without affecting the calculators, which do not need cookies to function.
- At the source. Personalised advertising can be switched off at Google Ads Settings, and across many vendors at youronlinechoices.com. You will still see adverts; they will simply be untargeted.
What breaks if you block them
The calculators, the DeCA and the guides work the same: they run in your browser and do not read or write cookies. Only the account needs cookies: if you block them, you will not be able to sign in.
